Looking for a reliable side hustle? One area that is in high demand right now is a work from home social media manager. I have consistently earned $2500 per month working less than an hour per day for the past decade. That's why we have included in our I Love Making Money Ways to Make $1,000 (per day, per week or per month).
Let's get the questions out of the way first.
A social media manager creates content for social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
As a social media manager, you will create photos & content for each social media platform. You will post relevant content and include the top hashtags to grow each account. You will also remove spam and troll comments.
Can I Make Money as a Social Media Manager?
Yes. One advantage to making money as a social media manager is the recurring revenue that comes in every month.
Here's how that works.
You're going to position yourself as a freelancer who specializes in creating content for each platform.

How Much Money Should I Charge as a Social Media Manager?
Take a look at the example for an idea of what you can charge. For one social media platform, you're going to charge $100 to $150 for 30 days of content. (1 piece of content per day)
Then, create “premium services” like:
- Basic or Silver – $100 to $150 per day (1 platform)
- Standard or Gold – $300 to $350 per day (3 platforms)
- Premium – $400 to $500 per day (5 platforms)
With this pricing, you only need a few clients before you're making a full-time income. Seeing these numbers, what would be an ideal target income for you?
Let's say you want to make $4,000 per month working from home.
You would need one of these:
- 8 to 10 premium clients; or…
- 11 to 13 gold clients; or…
- 26 to 40 basic clients.
How Long Does It Take to Fulfill?
For this type of job, you'll be using Canva to design your graphics. Canva has pre-designed templates for you to quickly fill in the words & save-as.
To shortcut the fulfillment, I recommend saving your client's social media links in their own folder and then, opening them all up at the same time. That speeds up your fulfillment.

Take a look at the templates for Canva in the screenshot above, specifically under column one: Social Media. Here you will find ready-to-go templates for:
- Instagram Story
- Instagram Posts
- Facebook Posts
- Facebook Cover
- Twitter Posts
- Pinterest Graphics
- YouTube Thumbnails
- Cards
- Business Cards
What I love about Canva is that they have ever-changing templates that are professionally designed and ready to go. For example, I typed in Pinterest and a massive list of designs appeared. I quickly had “15 Dinner Ideas for You and Your Dad” in a graphic.

How Do I Get Started as a Social Media Manager?
The first step is positioning yourself as “The Manager”. It may feel awkward at first to say that you're a social media manager (especially if you're new), but this is where your confidence has to take over.
Use Canva again to create all your messaging and promotional graphics. You can model what other social media managers are using. You can even get funky with it and add your personality to it.
Ask yourself: Would you hire this person below?

Then, you'll create your free Fiverr account and begin filling out your new gig for your social media management. What I recommend pulling up examples of other gigs to get ideas on what to say.
You're going to create five gigs to start out with to maximize your exposure.
Here's why:
Let's say someone is looking for a social media manager for their Facebook. One of your gigs will be exclusively designed for Facebook. You can charge $100 for 2 weeks of posts. You can have another premium service and charge $200 for 30 days.
Let's say someone is looking for a social media manager for Instagram. One of your gigs will be designed for Instagram. You will charge $130 to post 1 per day for two weeks or $200 to post 2 per day for a month.
The more specific gigs you have on Fiverr, the more likely you'll get business from clients looking for that specific type of help.
How Do I Land Long-Term Contracts?
Most of your future Fiverr hires will be repeat customers. Your goal is to provide excellent, professional service at all times. Aim for a five-star review from your clients every single time.
Of course, Fiverr is not the only play here. There are many other job platforms where entrepreneurs are also looking for social media managers.
Here are two that we recommend:
- Hire My Mom – Search for work from home positions, including social media managers.
- Outsourcely – Search for work from home positions in 8 different work categories.
And then, there are other freelance platforms similar to Fiverr. Here are two we recommend:
- People Per Hour – Post your profile on people per hour and business owners contact you.
- Freelancer – Create your profile on Freelancer so businesses and entrepreneurs can hire you directly from their site.
You can also search our Best Freelancing Platforms for a specific job category.
