Udemy Class Action Lawsuit – Deadline to File a Claim is July 21, 2023

Udemy has agreed to provide a cash payment of four dollars ($4.00) for every Eligible Course Purchase up to $40 to each Class Member who timely submits a valid Claim Form by July 21, 2023.  The deadline is fast approaching.

In the event the total dollar amount of claims made exceeds the funds available in the Settlement Fund Account, the per-course value to be distributed will be determined by dividing the total number of courses for which claims have been made into the amount of the funds available in the Settlement Fund Account. In the event the total dollar amount of claims is less than the funds available in the Settlement Fund Account, that amount shall be divided by the number of Class Members who claim and are eligible to receive payment and distributed in an equal amount to each such Class Member in the form of a nontransferable, nonrefundable account credit useable for up to three years from the date of distribution to the Udemy account associated with that Class Member’s email address.

What Is the Udemy Class Action Lawsuit About?

The Udemy Class Action lawsuit is centered around allegations that Udemy used deceptive advertising tactics, specifically concerning the discounts offered on its courses. The plaintiff argues that Udemy's advertised discounts were not entirely accurate, potentially misleading customers. It's worth noting that Udemy denies these allegations and any liability, and no court or other entity has made any judgment or other determination of any liability yet.

Who Is Included in the Class?

The court has defined the class for this lawsuit as anyone residing in the United States who purchased a course or courses from Udemy at a discount, based on a Reference Price Promotion, during the period from August 23, 2017, through April 21, 2023. This means that if you fall within this definition, you may be eligible to take part in the UDEMY class action settlement.

How Much Can Each Person Get?

Each class member who submits a timely and valid claim can receive a cash payment of four dollars ($4.00) for every eligible course purchase, up to a maximum of $40. However, this amount may vary depending on the total dollar amount of claims made. If the total dollar amount of claims exceeds the funds available in the Settlement Fund Account, the per-course value to be distributed will be recalculated. Conversely, if the total dollar amount of claims is less than the funds available, the remaining amount will be divided equally among all claimants and distributed as a non-transferable, non-refundable account credit usable for up to three years on Udemy.
